The Challenge

Fairfield University selected Unum Group as their benefits provider, but shortly after implementation, Unum introduced significant updates to its Life Insurance policy that affected the university’s employee benefit structure. Fairfield’s Basic Life and Voluntary Life insurance plans were not properly configured to reflect Unum’s new age adjustment provisions. Consequently, coverage amounts were miscalculated based on employees’ current salaries, failing to account for the necessary adjustments for employees aged 70 or older for two consecutive years. This oversight resulted in incorrect coverage for affected employees, creating confusion and concern. To resolve the issue swiftly, Fairfield turned to Kognitiv for expert remediation and support.
