About the Client
Our enduring partnership with Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) began in August 2016, marking them as our fourth lifetime client when Kognitiv, Inc. was a five-person team. Since that time, PLNU’s proactive approach and willingness to embrace innovative solutions have allowed us to collaborate on extensive optimization projects across nearly every area of their Workday platform. This collaboration has not only enhanced the capabilities of their existing system but has continually positioned PLNU at the cutting-edge of Workday functionality.
Optimizing Functionality with Workday Extend and Prism
PLNU partnered with Kognitiv to build a powerful Workday Extend application to replace limited functionality from the legacy Student Management system. The Extend application interfaced with an external system which tracked student attendance at weekly convocations.
This allowed PLNU coordinators to seamlessly create and manage weekly events, view and manage attendance, and bulk load exceptions. In addition to empowering students to easily view their attendance progression, convocation requirements, and view credited attendance.
To fully optimize Workday Prism, PLNU collaborated with Kognitiv to establish the platform as the central repository and robust reporting hub for critical Student Success Metrics.
This partnership successfully re-secured sensitive data objects within Workday Prism, enabling the compliant and secure reporting of Student Accommodation data.
By leveraging the full capabilities of Workday Prism, PLNU now utilizes the platform as its institutional data warehouse for advanced reporting and insights.
"Kognitiv has been more than a vendor – they have truly partnered with our business in using the entire Workday platform. This includes, HR, payroll, accounting and finance, the student information system, big data (PRISM), and reporting. We see the members of the Kogntiv team as an extension of our staff."

The Solution
Platform Optimization
Kognitiv partnered with PLNU to significantly optimize their Workday environment, delivering impactful results across the platform. This included successfully navigating four years of open enrollment cycles and 1094/1095 support, including seven complex full integration builds with new vendors. By streamlining PLNU’s operational efficiency with full document distribution for handbooks, Kognitiv executed a critical security audit with ongoing maintenance reporting, overhauled time tracking for adjunct workers, and optimized the recruiting process with a new hub and requisition compensation structure. This comprehensive HCM suite audit ensured the adoption of best practices and implementation of missed release updates, maximizing PLNU's return on their Workday investment.
Implementations to Expand PLNU’s Workday Footprint
Innovative Enhancements
To streamline the handling of internal questions and issues Kognitiv assisted PLNU in implementing Workday Cases. This optimization coincided with the transition to the new Workday User Interface featuring People Experience, significantly enhancing their overall functionality.
Student Support Service
Kognitiv optimized PLNU's WorkdayStudent functionality by completing a security overhaul, which included updating to proper constrained role access in addition to implementing the powerful Student Notes Functionality with Segmented Security.
Reporting Optimization
In order to streamline PLNU’s reporting requirements, Kognitiv created a series of Executive Dashboards to track a variety of elements from Turnover, Diversity, and Demographic Reporting, to Payroll Changes and Student Earnings Reporting. Plus, extensive Benefits and Financials Projects Dashboards to monitor eligibility, show upcoming passive events, and audit retirement elections and more.
